7 DONT’s in your Wedding Planning

Most of the items you’ll see here were mistakes I have committed myself and some others were from the brides I know. Don’t be one of us! Read on.

1.)    Don’t throw away receipts.
Trust is a good thing, but receipts are important. A bride confided with me a couple of weeks ago about her sentiments with her caterer. She had paid a big amount already but still the manager keeps asking her for more. She has no way to prove that she had paid them already since she has no receipts to show.

2.)    Don’t pay without a receipt.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s just a piece of paper as long as the amount you paid, the date, your sign and the supplier’s sign are there. That’s still a proof that you paid.

3.)    Don’t decide without research.
The internet will give you tons and tons of ideas. Spend some time every day or every weekend for research. Believe me, it will save you from making mistakes.

4.)    Don’t decide on impulse esp in bazaars.
You will definitely get good deals at a bazaar but never go there unprepared. Like what I said, prepare yourself by researching first. When you get there, they will not give you time to think. It’s like now or never. And before you know it, you are already paying for something you actually don’t need or want.

5.)Don’t hire someone just because she is nice. Make sure she is able.
You don’t want a “nice” pilot. You want a “skilled” pilot. You get what I’m saying right?

6.)    Don’t get a supplier if you have not seen their previous work.
I made a mistake in hiring an amateur couturier. Well, she was “nice” but I wish I had trusted my impulse when I saw her previous gowns. They were mediocre. I just “trusted” that she can do better with mine. I was wrong. =( I had to hire another couturier to make another wedding gown for me.

7.)Don’t get a supplier if you have not talked to any of their previous clients.
They could be skilled but they could be unprofessional too. Recommendations from your friends are always the best thing. They will tell you honestly if the supplier is worth hiring or not. Wedding planning is a journey. Maybe it’s too late and you have done some of the don’ts here already. Take heart and just enjoy your planning!

Children can be a LOT of fun at weddings (especially busting their cute little moves on the dance floor!)  Unless you already have children, of course – in which case I’m sure they’ll be a big, beautiful part of your day!

It’s your decision because it’s your wedding! Do what makes you happy! Pictures may be hard, but they also may go amazing. You won’t know that until the day of. Maybe do some way of practicing beforehand if possible?

These days it’s quite safe – and easy – to shop online. In fact, the Internet opens up a whole new world of possibilities for finding discount prom dresses – but it all depends on how you search. A search for “discount prom dresses” or “clearance prom dresses” will yield numerous results, but also entering a past year (ex: 2007 prom dresses, 2005 prom dresses) will also yield some interesting – and affordable – results. Also be sure to search for bridesmaid dresses, formal dresses and evening gowns, since they all make stunning prom dresses.

Consignment Stores
Some people just don’t want to hold onto their prom dresses or bridesmaid gowns. So what do they do with them? Many times, they will sell them to consignment stores. The prom dresses you will find at consignment stores cost considerably less than those at department stores, and are usually in fabulous shape, since most consignment stores have stringent requirements about the quality of items they will accept.

Online Auctions
You’d be amazed at the amount of affordable prom dresses available at online auction sites such as eBay. Before you bid on a prom dress, be sure to finalize your budget. You may also want to find a couple of alternate prom dresses in case you are outbid on your first choice. There are ways to find affordable prom dresses for your special night that make you look like a million bucks. Just use some creativity and allow yourself plenty of time to shop and you’ll have no trouble finding the prom dress of your dreams – for a fraction of the price.

What Shoes to Wear With A Little Black Prom Dress?

There’s a few options (depending on the look you want to achieve). Remember, black goes with almost everything (but I wouldn’t wear white shoes with a nice black dress, it kind of decreases the sophistication of the dress).

For a sexy look – definitely rich or deep red (no patterns, plain red)
For a chic look – silver
For a sophisticated and elegant look – gold
For a funky/playful/flirty look – turquoise

You can match your purse to your bag (but are not limited to matching i.e. you can still carry a black purse). Also coordinate your jewelry (if you will be wearing any) to your shoes and/or bag (or at least make sure that your shoes, pure, and accessories are in the same color family).

Putting Your Wedding Ideas Into Place

Everyone young girl has a dream about what their wedding will be like. However, the dream does not always happen and people often forced to come up with different wedding ideas. While you want your wedding to be the greatest day of your life, something that people will talk about for years to come it does not have to be a huge ordeal that you get stressed out over. Sometimes keeping the wedding simple and elegant is better than having it large and over the top. When you are planning your wedding things need to be done well in advance, especially booking the location because popular locations are getting booked well in advance. Most people usually plan to have their wedding approximately a year after they get engaged. If this is the case then you should start picking a date as soon as possible and then decide the location of your wedding. This should be completed within the first six to twelve months. Also in this time frame you should discuss the budget of the wedding with your future husband. This will give you the exact amount of money that you will spend on the wedding and it will allocate where the money will be spent. You need to also book the officiator of your wedding at this time as well because people are also booking these professionals well in advance. Once the larger things are booked for your wedding then you can start looking at the smaller details.

The most important thing that you need to do around four to six months prior to your wedding is pick out your own wedding dress. The wedding dress takes about six weeks to arrive if it needs to be ordered and then you need to leave time for the dress to be altered. It is during this time that you should also select your bridesmaid dresses as well. The same time frame will apply to those dresses if they need to ordered in. It would be a good idea at this time to start looking at clothing for your groom and the groomsmen. While it does not take a long time to have tuxedos ordered in it is always good to have it done in advance so there are no worries if things take a little longer than expected.

The last two months before the wedding is the time in which you should do the final touches on everything. It is then that you should order the weddings rings and have them engraved if you are planning to do so. You should order the marriage licence at this time as well to ensure that it will be ready before the wedding. Planning the rehearsal dinner and any other parties is necessary at this time so that you are not stressing right before the wedding. Planning ahead will ensure that everything will go smoothly.
