Tell Your Child That You Don’t Like Their Fiancé?

Navigating your child’s engagement can be tricky, especially if you have concerns about their future spouse. While your instincts may scream to voice your disapproval, handling the situation with care is crucial to avoid damaging your relationship. Here’s how to approach it thoughtfully:

1. Reflect Before Speaking

Ask yourself: Is my concern based on genuine red flags (disrespect, controlling behavior, etc.), or is it a matter of personal preference? If it’s the latter, consider whether it’s worth addressing at all.

2. Choose the Right Moment

Avoid blurting out criticism in the heat of the moment. Instead, find a calm, private setting to express your thoughts—without ambushing them.

3. Focus on Behavior, Not Character

Instead of saying, “I don’t like them,” frame concerns around specific actions:

  • “I’ve noticed they often dismiss your opinions—have you talked about that?”
  • “I worry about how they handle conflict. What’s your take?”

This keeps the conversation objective and opens dialogue rather than putting your child on the defensive.

4. Listen More Than You Lecture

Your child may see things you don’t. Ask questions: “What do you love most about them?” or “How do you handle disagreements?” Their answers might ease your mind—or help them reflect.

5. Respect Their Autonomy

Ultimately, it’s their decision. Even if you disagree, make it clear you’ll support them unconditionally: “I’ll always be here for you, no matter what.”

When to Speak Up Strongly

If there are serious concerns (abuse, addiction, or manipulation), don’t stay silent. Voice your worries firmly but lovingly, and offer resources (counseling, support groups) if needed.

Final Thought: Honesty is important, but so is trust. However you proceed, prioritize your child’s emotional well-being—and your long-term relationship with them.

Have you faced this situation? How did you handle it? Share in the comments.

Wedding Gifts – Tips on the giving of Wedding Gifts

A wedding is the perfect time to celebrate and to give a unique and memorable gift. A wedding is without exception the best and perhaps the biggest event in a couples life. There are a few other great gift occasions like a new baby but today we will talk about the wedding gift. Here are a few tips and ideas for gift giving pre wedding and on the wedding day.

Engagement party gifts

For some an engagement party is a great way to tell the family and friends of the great event about to come to the engaged couple. This can just be a party without gifts but for the most part friends know or the engagement and bring gifts to the party. The gifts are sometimes gag gifts but sometimes a friend will bring a very meaningful gift as well. If you keep the party very informal then will not be obligated to bring gifts. The more formal the party then most likely gifts will arrive. Remember that any gift you receive at the engagement party should be reciprocated with a nice Thank you note.

Wedding Gifts

Wedding Gifts can be brought to the wedding or sent out after receiving the invitation to the wedding. You may want to check and see if the couple has registered on a gift registry first. Many couples don’t so you can talk to the family and see what the couple could use as they just start out. Many new young couples need almost everything a new home could use. I personally would stay away from the flat grill as many couples get two or three of them. The point is talk to someone in the wedding party that knows what the couple could use and buy the wedding gift based on personality and love.

Wedding Shower

Over the years the wedding showers have start to become a bride and groom affair. This is where the bridal shower gift can be very small and casual or big and elaborate. As before it depends on the invitation sent out as to how formal it is. A great Shower party is one full of friends and family and a time to reflect over the couple’s lives before the big wedding day. Many wedding showers have a theme to them. Usually the friends put together a Hawaiian night or a night related to the couple’s personality. You can even at this point extent the theme to the food and entertainment.

Rehearsal Dinner

Just before the wedding Day the couple gets together with the bridesmaids and groomsmen for a rehearsal dinner. This is a perfect time to exchange gifts from the bride and groom to the bridesmaids and groomsmen. This is a Thank You gift and great care should be taken in the choosing of this gift. The gift should be from the heart and if possible personalised in some way this makes the gift more memorable to the bridal party for years to come. Sometimes the wedding party will give a gift to the bride and groom as a just starting out gift.

Wedding Day Favours and gifts

The day of the wedding is here and as at many weddings now days the bride and groom have prepare a small gift or wedding favour for all their guests. This small gift is optional and is only for showing your appreciation of your guest and your way of saying Thank You for coming to our wedding. You can give this small gift to each couple or to each guest this is totally up to you. Some wedding couples spend allot on this favour but many keep it affordable and within the budget. You can find many traditional wedding favours but this is a great time to try a new trend and go with a gift that is relative to your personalities and your guest will find memorable.

The point in gifts for the wedding is that every gift you choose for all the different parts of the wedding should be heartfelt and chosen with love. Only in selecting your gifts this way will your wedding event be truly memorable for you and your guest.

Although you can go with your own choice but it is better to check what is latest and new in shoes industry. Currently, ivory wedding shoes with lace ties, big bows, handcrafted flowers, and oversized gems are in fashion.

So, wedding shoes are crucial as they make you look perfect. But, you must keep the aforementioned points in mind while buying wedding shoes for you.

Ideas for Christmas themed wedding

If you want to add more spirit for your wed, then plan your wedding during Christmas holidays. Ensure that you plan the date of your wed during the Christmas holidays, but not on the exact Christmas day, so as to make sure that everyone attends the wedding. Here are some ideas for Christmas themed wedding-

Attire: The bride can select a traditional white or colorful gown with velvet or fur muff or shawl to warm up, which is not possible with a bouquet. All white tuxes with hangings will best suit for the bridegroom. The bridesmaids can have white or green or red color dresses with perfect bouquets and the groomsmen can have white tuxes with silver vests and bowties.

Flowers: Red and white roses or Poinsettias or red calla lilies look stunning and also add a touch of ivy, pine or holly berries. A crystal bouquet looks more stunning than flowers for the bride.

Transportation: Select a magical arrival in a horse drawn carriage or sleigh with the driver dresses in red or as Santa.

Church: This is most important as all the churches will be decorated for Christmas. So, you have to check in beforehand to reserve for your wedding. Try some unique things like Christmas lights that are wrapped in white ribbon or tulle. Have some star designed candles that can be lighted along the aisle. This gives a romantic and snowy effect. You can also try hanging wreaths on the pews.

Reception: Select the location of the reception, which has a fireplace for a cozy and warm setting. Have one ice sculpture place at the entrance to get that winter feel.

Centerpieces: To get the festive look, have some red roses placed in a bowl packed with green pine branches. You can also try some garlands in the center of each and every table with Christmas candles in middle of the table. If you want to try differently, then have some cranberries in a bowl with water with floating candles. Have some mini Christmas trees, Christmas presents and gingerbread houses that look beautiful as centerpieces.

Music: For cocktail hour and for dinner, have some Christmas carols. Hire some Christmas carolers to stop at each table and sing carols. Ask one of your friends to dress up as Santa and distribute some beautiful gifts to the children in the wed.

Food: Have some Christmas cookies, eggnog and hot chocolate and spiced wine for the guests. For the dinner, serve stuffing potatoes, turkey, sliced ham and cranberry sauces to get the festive holiday feel.
